Preventing Gun Violence While Protecting Gun Rights: CRS Experts
William J. Krouse
Specialist in Domestic Security and Crime Policy
The following table provides names and contact information for CRS experts on policy issues related to preventing gun violence while protecting gun rights. In the wake of the Newtown, CT, shootings, several gun control issues are likely to be debated. They are likely to include universal backgrounds checks, a ban or greater regulation of certain semiautomatic firearms and large capacity ammunition feeding devices (sometimes referred to as “military-style” or “military grade” firearms, or “assault weapons”), strengthening background checks, improving firearm trace databases, and repealing limitations on certain firearms-related data maintained by the federal government. For a complete list of CRS products on gun violence prevention and gun control, see the CRS Issues in Focus webpage on “Regulation of Firearms.”
